About

Jono is a dedicated and accomplished musician with a rich background in drumming across various genres. His enthusiasm and passion for drums are evident in his vibrant teaching and dynamic performances. With over 14 years of experience, Jono has honed his skills and continuously seeks to grow as both a performer and educator.

Jono's journey with drumming began at the age of seven when his parents recognized his natural sense of rhythm as he danced to Michael Jackson's music. Encouraged by this discovery, they enrolled him in drumming lessons, setting him on a path of musical exploration and development. Today, Jono is a prominent figure in the music scene, regularly gigging around Christchurch and abroad with multiple bands spanning a range of genres. In 2017, Jono earned his Grade 8 certificate exams, a testament to his technical proficiency and dedication. Currently, he is furthering his musical education at Ara, continuously expanding his knowledge and skill set.

Teaching Philosophy

Jono’s teaching philosophy is student-centred, adapting his approach to meet the individual needs and playing styles of his students. Drawing from his experience in the New Zealand music scene, he provides practical and relevant instruction that resonates with aspiring drummers. His passion for music and teaching aims to ignite the same enthusiasm in his students, encouraging them to pursue their musical aspirations with confidence. Jono is committed to equipping his students with the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their musical dreams, fostering a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
